| ENGLISH BELOW | En 1991 Angel Molina recibía su primer sueldo como DJ, era un mundo virgen en cuanto a lo que este oficio se refiere. Han pasado casi 30 años y la industria de la electrónica ha cambiado mucho. Y más aun Angel Molina. A lo largo de estos años el dj catalán se ha convertido en uno de los ejes de la electrónica estatal y en un referente a nivel global, desde sus inicios hasta la actualidad. Respetado y admirado por gente como Laurent Garnier que citó a Ángel como uno de sus djs favoritos y con una carrera de dj mixes que muy pocos pueden presentar. Sus Wax Sessions (2000 - 2003) cuentan con una serie de artistas que marcaron un punto de inflexión; Jeff Mills, Terrence Dixon, Holden, Dabrye, Leandro Fresco, Mathew Dear, Paco Osuna,...son algunos de los nombres que en su momento el olfato de Angel intuía que se convertirían en productores atemporales. Ya en 2004, un CD mix en el que se mezclaba el catálogo de Frágil - Pasada Profesional (enlace discogs) - , uno de los sellos de culto de la escena americana fue reseñado por The New York Times como uno de los mejores CD mixes de 2004, destacando en su reseña las maravillas técnicas del dj catalán. Siendo esta la tónica general de todos sus trabajos hasta la actualidad. El trabajo de esta artista no ha parado, siguió otra nueva entrega de Wax Sessions (2006) o un recopilatorio para Sònar en 2009. Recientemente ha editado dos mixtapes con sesiones que muestran una amplitud de miras y una técnica de mezcla superior. Una compartida con Svreca en Semantica Records (enlace discogs) y una segunda de corte más experimental realizada en el directo de Boiler Room en el Primavera Sound 2014 (ver aquí). Esta última masterizada y editada en casete en 30D (escucha).
Angel Molina es capaz de mover una pista entre el ambient, drone o el techno, sin miedo a subir un bombo de velocidad o prescindir de este durante el tiempo que haga falta. De ahí su prestigio y reputación, él mismo es el creador de las atmósferas, sin miedo al qué dirán o a exigencias de lo preconcebido en una sesión. Una creatividad y mente abierta que le llevó a recibir el premio Tendències por su carrera en 2016. Angel Molina no se encierra en un espacio, cuando se le pregunta por referencias actuales ha citado cosas como Dive, Moderat, Shed o Fever Ray, artistas de culto en diferentes campos. Así hoy día continúa pinchando por salas de todo el mundo, sigue como DJ residente del festival Sònar - siendo el encargado del set de cierre del 30 aniversario del festival en 2023. Además como A&R del sello 30D Records. Basada en el catálogo del sello alemán, una sesión para la plataforma Barcelona electronica + (ver aquí) – en apoyo al sector de la música tras la pandemia. Si no llega a ser por esta crisis, Angel Molina haría su tercera sesión en Berghain Berlin en 15 meses, tras su última visita en Julio 2019 y las sesiones de Abril y Octubre 2020 que tuvieron que ser canceladas con el resto de programación. Una señal de la gran forma y reputación de la goza el dj barcelonés. Siempre en el filo de la experimentación, con la responsabilidad del buen hacer y de querer sorprender al espectador.

In 1991 Angel Molina received his first salary as a DJ, it was a virgin world as far as this profession is concerned. Almost 30 years have passed and the electronic music industry has changed a lot. And even more so Angel Molina. Throughout these years the Catalan dj has become one of the axes of the national electronic music and a global reference, from its beginnings to the present. Respected and admired by people like Laurent Garnier who cited Angel as one of his favorite djs and with a career of dj mixes that very few can present. His Wax Sessions (2000 - 2003) featured a series of artists that marked a turning point; Jeff Mills, Terrence Dixon, Holden, Dabrye, Leandro Fresco, Mathew Dear, Paco Osuna,...are some of the names that at the time Angel's sense of smell intuited that they would become timeless producers. Already in 2004, a mix CD in which he mixed the catalog of Fragile - Pasada Profesional (discogs link) - one of the cult labels of the American scene. It was reviewed by The New York Times as one of the best CD mixes of 2004, highlighting in its review the technical wonders of the Catalan dj. This has been the general tone of all his work to date. The work of this artist has not stopped, followed by another new release of Wax Sessions (2006) or a compilation for Sònar in 2009. He has also released two mixtapes with sessions that show a breadth of vision and a superior mixing technique. One shared with Svreca on Semantica Records (discogs link) and a second one of more experimental cut made at Boiler Room live at Primavera Sound 2014 (watch here). The latter mastered and released on cassette at 30D (listen).
Angel Molina is able to move the dancefloor between ambient, drone or techno, without fear of raising a speed drum or doing it without it for as long as it takes. Hence his prestige and reputation, he himself is the creator of the atmospheres, without fear of what people will say or preconceived demands in a session. A creativity and open mind that led him to receive the Tendències award (El Mundo Newspaper) for his career in 2016. Angel Molina does not confine himself to a space, when asked about current references he has cited things like Dive, Moderat, Shed or Fever Ray, cult artists in different fields. So today he continues to play in clubs around the world, continues as resident DJ at the Sònar festival (2018 closing set) and as A&R of the label 30D Records. Based on the catalog of the German label, a session for the Barcelona electronica + platform (here) - in support of the music sector after the pandemic. If it was not for this crisis, Angel Molina would have made his third session at Berghain Berlin in 15 months, after his last visit in July 2019 and the April and October 2020 sessions that had to be canceled with the rest of the programming. A sign of the great form and reputation enjoyed by the Barcelona dj. Always on the edge of experimentation, with the responsibility of good work and wanting to surprise the viewer.
